Wire EDM

When a milling cutter cannot reach the corner, wire EDM can — in material up to full hardness.

Wire EDM cuts a straight, burr-free path through conductive material regardless of hardness. It is the answer for sharp internal corners, narrow slots, thin walls and parts that are already heat-treated.

It is also how we cut the tooling that other operations depend on — die inserts, punches and electrodes.

Kerf width and achievable accuracy depend on material thickness and the number of passes. Send the drawing and we will state what we can hold on that specific part.

Materials, equipment and inspection

The practical detail.

Materials for this process

Any conductive material: hardened tool steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, nickel alloys, copper and carbide. Hardness does not change the cut.

Equipment and inspection

Wire-cut EDM machines, used for part features and for the electrodes and die inserts other operations depend on. Cut profiles checked on the 2D vision measuring machine.

Questions

What buyers ask about this process.

What information do you need to quote this?
The drawing, the material, the quantity and the date you need the parts. If a critical feature is unclear, we will ask rather than assume.
Can you work from a sample instead of a drawing?
For simple parts, usually yes. We will measure the sample, send you a drawing for approval, and machine against that.
Wire EDM — what do you need to know from me?
Anything unusual about how the part is used. Function tells us where to put the effort: a worn surface matters more than a cosmetic one, and knowing that changes how we machine it.

Send us a drawing. Get an engineering answer, not a price list.

Tell us the part, the material and the quantity. An engineer reviews your drawing and replies within one working day — usually with a suggestion on how to make it cheaper.
